Nia-Qigong Workshop 2: discover and direct your internal energy / energize your Nia dance
    Dragons Gym, Hillfield Park
Muswell Hill, North London, N10 3P
    Sunday, 18th April 2010, 3pm - 5pm

Qigong, the ancient Chinese system of self-cultivation, is being practiced for thousands of years as a means of protecting health, promoting vitality and prolonging life, while cultivating spiritual awareness and insight. The human being is part of nature. If the body does not move, physical essence does not flow and energy stagnates. If the mind and heart are not clear and calm, chaos and confusion are assured. By using our mind, breathing and body movements, Qigong activates energy flow through the meridians, strengthens internal organs, exercises bones, joints and muscles, promotes relaxation and stress control, prevents occupational diseases and expands our awareness at all levels.

Tai Chi, the graceful rhythmic dance comprised of Qigong exercises, has a special function in Nia’s creation and practice. In Nia, through movement we find health, through stillness we get into RAW (state of being Relaxed, Alert and Waiting) to become more energized. We also use martial arts to condition, and strengthen our physical body by moving the Qi and animating the entire living matter of the body.

This workshop, which is the second of a series to follow, will show you how to discover, develop and direct the powerful (vital) energy (Qi) of your body. Learn how to move by opening your body’s meridians allowing for a healthy flow of your Qi and an energized, and balanced state of your joints and muscles. We will playfully explore and dance the 8 Animals Qigong that mimics the movements of the tiger, bear, turtle, eagle, and others to facilitate the cultivation of Qi and spirit. The workshop will end with a 60 minutes class that will blend the qigong teachings with the classic Nia choreography and free movement.
