1. Neuromuscular Integrative Action

A dynamic blend of dance arts, martial arts and healing arts, Nia blends a range of rhythmic music styles with carefully choreographed hour-long routines. Nia addresses the whole person through music and movement integrated from nine traditional movement forms.

  2. Now I am

I am expanding my sensory awareness by paying attention to how I feel from moment to moment. Now I Am present, my feet are grounded, and my heart feels open, charged, full. Now I Am present, I am loose and relaxed. I breathe freely, and feel centred in what is happening, without expectation or judgement.

  3. [< Swahili intention; purpose; aim >]

Learn to approach everything with purpose, feeling, passion & electricity.

Nia combines dance movements and heart-pumping martial arts moves infused with subtle therapeutic techniques designed to heighten body awareness and Sensory IQ. The Nia workout is generally performed in bare feet and, through the use of music and movement, each Nia experience is uniquely crafted to both calm and invigorate. A Nia workout delivers cardiovascular and whole body conditioning for the body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Developed in the early 1980s by Debbie and Carlos Rosas, Nia is a body-mind-spirit fitness program that works with the natural wisdom and intelligence of the body, mind, spirit, and emotions. Nia supports the Pleasure Principle: If it feels good keep doing it, if it hurts, stop!

Nia empowers people to make their own movement choices by offering a flexible structure they can personally modify to suit individual needs. The blueprint of Nia is practical, experiential, and focuses on internal guidance to change and develop awareness.
